CURRENCY:

One of the biggest perks when traveling to Ecuador is that they use the US dollar. There is no need to exchange money, since they use the dollar.

WEATHER

In Quito, getting all four seasons in one day is normal, so make sure you pack layers. In the morning, it can be very chilly (winter 50F), in the late morning/early afternoon it can feel like Spring (60F with even a few showers), the afternoon turns into a warm summer (75F), and the night feels like fall where you would want a sweater or jacket (55F). Don't forget your sunscreen either! Even if it is cool outside, being on the equator and at high altitudes, it is easy to get burned.

ALTITUDE

Quito is at 9,350 feet. Traveling from a low-altitude city to Quito, you will notice the change and might get altitude sickness. Things to remember when dealing with altitude:

- Stay hydrated as dehydration can make altitude sickness worse

- Eat a candy or gum as sugar will help with altitude sickness.

- Altitude can enhance the effects of alcohol, so you will want to drink responsibly when adjusting to the altitude.

- Avoid intense physical activity until you are acclimated

FLIGHTS

When looking into flights, we recommend putting a flight tracker on Google Flights to be notified of any price changes. Guests will fly to Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport.

IMPORTANT FOREIGN TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Your Passport has to have remaining validity of at least six months is required to enter Ecuador.

Please make sure to renew your passport with plenty of time to spare. Note that processing times, even for expedited processing (7-9 weeks), have increased due to volume.

Tips:

Keep some cash on you, but not too much. Ecuador's currency is the US dollar. It is handy to have cash for taxis, local markets, and food stands.

Remember to hydrate as much as possible to avoid altitude sickness.

Uber does work in Quito, but make sure to give yourself plenty of time as traffic can sometimes make the ETA inaccurate.
